cheyenne and family….

this adorable family (and the adorable cheyenne of course) met with me in the lovely town of Golden a few weeks ago. i can honestly say i’ve never done a family session there before so i was looking forward to it. i scouted out the area around our spot to meet and was shocked to see 4-5 other photographers doing the same. it got worse as we started to shoot. (the last time i counted there were 5-6 other professionals setting up for family photo session!) at times we had to wait for a specific area for way too long and the light was dwindling quickly. it was frustrating for me as an artist and for my clients as it was adding to the time of our shoot (not fun for a little one) and it was getting colder and colder as the sun went down.

BUT this family was super sweet. they didn’t complain and happily traveled from one spot to another in search or a free space and good light. (we did, however, go through lots of tissue for their adorable little one who’s nose was so cold and runny!) i so appreciated their patience and good spirits about the location.

i love the emotion captured in these images. pure. raw. unscripted. i just let the family BE and we enjoyed our time together–no fancy lights, props, posing….just the promise to their little one of a lollipop as a reward for her sweet smiles.

thanks guys for braving the cold and the crowds. i really enjoyed capturing your beauty and sweetness and hope we can work together again next year! (and i promise i won’t bring a BLUE RASPBERRY lollipop for your daughter as a reward next time…it will be a non-staining one for sure!!) SMILE!

and here’s an email i just got from the family:

Hi Mary Beth!

You are very efficient and organized! 🙂 We love the pictures and have made Christmas cards, as well as calendars for the grandmas! We will definitely work with you in the future again.
