this little guy tugs at my heartstrings. he’s so adorable and so loved. i’ve had the honor of photographing his family for several years now and really enjoy being with them. (and i love that they are all from pittsburgh too…my hometown.) hanging out with them during this shoot was just like being with my own family.)
i asked mom to write a few thoughts for this blog post to accompany the images so here are her words.
thanks april and tom for trusting me to capture your family again this year–especially as a gift for mom.
Our mom had just one request for Mother’s Day…. a professional family picture. If she recalled correctly, the last one was sometime in the late 90’s. Aside from spiral perms and braces, many things had changed in our family.
We tend to be a camera shy bunch and sometimes it’s easy to get caught up in the details. What should we wear? Maybe it can wait until I lose a few pounds. The superficial stuff.
But, family pictures are about memories. Good, bad, messy, full of love memories. A snapshot in a family timeline.
So much of our family’s love is centered on our sweet Mason, who might be the most camera shy of all. The smallest member of our family and by far, the strongest. Teaching us all about life, without ever speaking a word. Finding joy every day, although his life is often full of extraordinary challenges. One of his superpowers is making superficial things fade away.
So, for this camera shy family, these pictures show 6 years with our brave boy. They show three generations filled with love, challenges, strength, and a lot of inappropriate laughter. They show our photographer’s patience and ability to just let us be us. Beautiful memories. We are so grateful to Mary Beth for capturing this snapshot in our family’s timeline.
