the trip to vegas, for me at least, is ALL about the classes, the opportunity to learn and grow as a photographer and the ability to bring back the coolest trends and incorporate them in to my business. but in addition to that it’s about the friends from all over the world that i’ve made through photography. they are connections that define words and exist and grow in simple imagery shared over the years. it’s an amazing feeling to be connected to another human being artistically and to have that relationship grow so fruitfully over time and distance.
i learned exciting information on marketing, branding, relationship and community building, how to incorporate true intimacy in photography, and about new products and ideas. but what sticks with me most are the simple moments of hanging out with four dear friends: monica, diana, shelly and sally.
how often do we get several days of uninterrupted time to be creative, have long long long conversations about life-love-logic, photography, business ideas or anything else in our busy lives as mothers, wives etc? NEVER right?
so i go to vegas not to party but to develop and nuture those friendships and relationships that mean so much to me. to sit on bed in our jammies and laugh about how much we miss our kids. to order food, hang out in the room on the 17th floor overlooking the vegas skyline while waxing philosophical about marriage, friendship and the passage of time. to get up at 4 after no sleep to see a magical sunrise concert in the desert with a dear friend. to sit outside the trade show for a long time waiting for a good friend to join you because it’s better to experience all of that fun together. to feel afire with passion for photography, friendship and life the entire time. those things all render me speechless when i look back on my recent trip to vegas.
will i go again next year?
(and lola–you ARE coming next year!!)
